The Heereswaffenamt gave the order for development a new half track to Bussing-NAG in spring 1942. End of 1943 started the series production of the sWs at Bussing-NAG in Berlin and Ringhoffer-Tatra in Kolin.
To end of the WW II about 1 000 vehicles were produced. A Sd. Kfz.-no. the sWS didn"t get.
