A-50 (product "A", according to NATO codification: Mainstay - "Oplot") - an aircraft of distant radar detection and control. Created on the basis of the military transport aircraft IL-76. A-50 can be used to detect and maintain air and surface targets, alert command centers of automated control systems of the Armed Forces of the air and surface situation, be used to control fighter and strike aircraft when they are aimed at air, ground and sea targets, and serve as an air command post.
