The first prototype of Scimitar was completed in July 1971 and accepted for service in 1973. It has the same hull as the Scorpion but is armed with a 30mm RARDEN cannon instead of 76mm gun. Cannon fires 30mm Hispano-Suiza Oerlicon ammunition. The gun fires in rapid single shots but bursts of up to six rounds can be fired if required. The Royal AF uses Scimitars in the EOD role. C-130 Hercules transport can carry two Scorpions.
