"Konig" was one of the most illustrious battleships of the Kaiser German Navy of WWI period..."Konig" was one of the most illustrious battleships of the Kaiser German Navy of WWI period. "Konig" particularly became famous as flagship of the 3rd Squadron of the Open Sea Navy (Hochseeflotte) Commander Rear Admiral Benke during the battle of Jutland (battle of Scagerrak). During the battle the "Konig" guns caused serious damages of British battleships "Warspite" and "Malaya" and helped to destroy (sunk) armored cruiser "Defense". But "Konig" was severely damaged by more than 10 British big-caliber shells. As a result of hits she was set afire and took about 1,600 tons of water. The ship was speedily repaired, slightly modified and sent into service at Baltic Sea, where she participated in companies against Russian Navy in Moonsund. After the armistice was signed "Konig" with all German Navy was interned by alliances at Scapa-Flow, where she was sunk by her crew June 21, 1919.
