The book is dedicated to the operations of the Soviet forces in Serbia. By autumn 1944, the partisan forces of the Yugoslav national Liberation Army drove the Nazis out of the most of their country on their own. However, the largest republic of the Yugoslav Federation, Serbia, with its capital city of Belgrade, remained occupied. Heavy materiel and the assistance of the Soviet forces were needed to defeat the Nazis. The Belgrade strategic offensive operation was conducted by the 3rd Ukrainian Front and part of the forces of the 2nd Ukrainian Front in conjunction with the Yugoslav and Bulgarian armies. The bitter fighting resulted in the defeat of the Wehrmacht"s Army Group "Serbia", liberation of the eastern and north-east areas of Yugoslavia and its capital, Belgrade, and creating favorable conditions for attacking in the Budapest direction.
